Although Halloween is of Western origin, when it comes to Japan it is mainly a commercialized event.
Some even started to decorate the stores for Halloween as early as September, which astonishes some foreigners who commented that they’re used to putting up the decorations as late as a few days before the last day of October!
It is amazing how Japanese society is so influenced by some foreign customs, especially if they come from USA, and Halloween is a good example. In most places we can find the orange pumpkins as decorations in the stores. The truth is that for a few days the stores have a more fun look.
As for the youngsters, Halloween is all about costume parties where they dress up to become fictional characters such as vampire, zombie, and some other popular anime/manga figures.
And funnily, after the Halloween is over, the Japanese will start to decorate for Christmas in November!
