Niconico is Japan’s version of YouTube and they hold a grand-scale fan event called NicoNico Chokaigi (ニコニコ超会議) every year. It started in year 2012 and Niconico Chokaigi 3 was held this year 2014 on April 26th and 27th so it’s a relatively new event.
It’s held at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba and the tickets for 2014 costed 1500 yen when bought in advance and 2000 yen when bought on the day. There is also the priority admission ticket, available only through advance purchase which I strongly recommend. It cost 1600 yen, only 100 yen more expensive than the normal entrance and saves you lotssss of queue (though you still have to wait).
This year, a staggering number of 124,966 people attended and over 7 million fans watched live online.
Did you know?
The profit for Niconico Chokaigi 3 is minus 70 million yen. Last year it was minus 88 million yen. Yes, they are losing money. But either way it was going to be deducted as tax so they chose to spend the money on something everyone can have fun with!
