The Hiratsuka Tanabata festival is the first to be done every year in Japan, and the largest in the Kanto region. It is famous for their decorations, consisting of hundreds of bamboo trunks decorated with colored paper called Tanzaku and huge ornaments called Kusudama, showing traditional images or today’s hottest characters that are sponsored by companies and shops that collaborate in the event. The organizers of other Tanabata festivals also come to this famous event trying to buy this kind of decorations because they are highly prized. Just like any Japanese summer festival, hundreds of stalls have supplied thousands of visitors with food and drink.
